"He who tooteth not his own horn
getteth his horn not tooteth!"

Gary Towne (B.A. Asian Studies and International Relations, Graduate Diploma in TESL) designed this website for the Global Unity Project and a student CDROM based
on Vivian Chu's book, Around the World with Proverbs, Metaphors, and Storytelling. This is Gary's first major project in the ELT profession. Previously, he has written a few small articles and poems for local publications, story translations in an Indonesian literature publication, and designed and/or maintained a few websites.

Gary has been teaching since the 1990s in various levels and curricula in EFL, mostly in Vancouver, BC, plus a year in Indonesia. He met Vivian at a school in 2001, where they worked as ESL teachers. Their common interest in ethnic music led them to collaborative performances at the school's talent shows. Vivian left the school to pursue her own vision as an educator, and published two books on fostering global unity and intercultural understanding in foreign language classes. Two years later, their paths crossed again as Vivian contacted Gary to create this website, which eventually led to the production of a CDROM based on her books.
