PETITION FOR A PETITIONS TRACKING SYSTEM
Request for online access to full content of citizen petitions and full wording of governmental responses to citizen petitions.
The following draft petition has been submitted to my local MP. After I receive final approval, I will be inviting all my friends and contacts to sign it.
If the issues and requests in this petition resonate with you, please download the petition itself, print it, and gather 25-30 signatures from your own circle of friends and contacts, and submit it to your own MP.
Together we can take big steps towards REAL Democracy!
That the right of petitioning Parliament for redress of grievances is acknowledged as a fundamental principle of the Constitution;
That since 1986, the Standing Orders have provided that the Ministry shall respond within 45 calendar days to every petition referred to it;
That currently citizens' petitions are merely numbered by the Clerk of Petitions and minimal information on the content of citizens' petitions are recorded and made accessible by the general public;
That it is not possible for the general public to access information on citizens' petitions already put forth to Parliament, through searching by subject matter;
That it is not possible for the general public to access information on the full content of citizens' petitions that have been put forth to Parliament;
That is it very difficult for the general public to access any information on governmental responses to citizens' petitions.
THEREFORE, we call upon the House of Commons in Parliament to make provisions for the general public to easily search and access online the full content of all petitions brought forward by citizens, as well as the full content of governmental written response to petitions brought forward by citizens, through the Parliamentary website www.parl.gc.ca and the Clerk of Petitions.
